How does one create?
Now a question that I used to ask a lot as a dancer or as an artist was: how do people create?
How do you know what to put right after the first step and how do I know if it is right or wrong?
So I battled for many many years, trying to find that RIGHT move only to come to the conclusion that there is no such thing.
The right move or aiming to get the right move is hokey pokey and gibberish nonsense.
Through the years of being blatantly transparent with myself and after my inner voice finally forced me to hear it, I understood that moving in a certain way is great till the time it feels right to YOU. And that is something that no mirror or no teacher can tell. That is something so personal yet so real that in that one moment, judgement completely vanishes. How can there be judgement if the emotion expressed through that movement is real? What is there to judge? The bent elbow of the right arm? The raised eyebrow in a moment of expression? The pointed foot brushing the floor?
Nothing. Nothing at all. In that one moment of expressing something that is real to me, I touch something that is real in you. We are not so different. All of us have come here for a reason and the closer we get to that reason, the stronger we become.
Since this realisation , creation has become like second nature to me coz guess what?
We are all meant to create. In myriad, different and unique ways.
So how I create NOW-
I listen. I listen. I listen again. To what emotion chooses to be expressed through me. I find the music which stirs me emotionally and from then on, it's just a question of letting it play out. I put in the time and out comes creation. My centre point of creation is attempting to put meaning behind my movement. To connect it to something that I hold of deep value to myself. Because when I do that, I immediately fast track through all the barriers between me and my audience and I simply connect.
I would love to know your creative process and maybe that can show me new ways of tweaking or evolving my own process.
