BAM! SHUTS THE BOX ON YOUR HEAD!
We are living in a world of endless definitions, taking in the curry made by chefs who don't know what food our soul craves.
We are fed definitions and boundaries for a living. You are a doctor, you are a lawyer, you are a designer, you are an engineer, you are a dancer, you are a teacher.
I stand here in defiance. Yes, you heard me right. I stand here in defiance because the more I live, the more I see myself in everything and everything in me.
I see fabrics and I see designs so does that make me a designer?
I hear music and I wish to dance so does that make me a dancer?
I see a pen and I start writing endlessly so does that make me a writer?
I see something that moves me and I click so am I a photographer?
I hear a speech by someone inspiring so I hear some more and does that make me a follower?
I have felt the conflict within when I have experienced creative outbursts for I have long been told that your profession is what predominantly defines you.
I have questioned my innate calling to express myself as deeply as possible. And in more mediums than one.
Maybe I shouldn't be doing so much? Maybe I am spreading myself too thin?
But the answer is in none of the above.
I, You and all of us embody within us a soul that is creative by nature. There is creation in everything. In EVERYTHING.
The most fundamental and forgotten example is our power of language. In a single day we CREATE atleast a 100 sentences. Yes, we went through our massive vocabulary of words and somehow chose to take some words from that and CREATE a sentence. YET, I hear so many people around me saying that they are just not creative. That's just not how we are. I'm just not creative. I have to work on my creativity. We just CREATED that reality by reaffirming it ourselves!
The moment a woman is born, in her womb, there is a seed of creation. We embody creativity. The moment a man is born, he carries the power to make a dormant life force come to life. We embody creativity.
So from now on it has become my heartiest endeavour to stop giving myself definitions. I use them when I have to but something inside me says, " there you go again. You have put yourself in that tiny box". As humans, our only limitations are truly just US. The same man who created electricity has the same brain as the man who lives a miserable life thinking that he is worthless. We are all the same yet somehow we have learnt how to differentiate and that differentiation comes from DEFINITIONS. The word in itself DEFINES something. A line is demarcated around the object to give it coherence and then the object loses the chance to become more than it could have been.
So here I am, asking all of you, just for a week to attempt living
without a definition. You are Tom and you are creative. You are Rakesh and you are creative. You are Simran and you are creative. You are. Without effort, without any need to define yourself.
How would you feel if you couldn't be defined?
