You were born with it!
You were born with it and yes it's a sacred gift. It's a gift unlike any other. It can't be given nor taken away.
We sometimes live through life with a host of thoughts that hold us back but hey who wants to talk about that? It isn't "fun". Yes, I have heard that a plenty of times.
Now my question is this-
Have you wondered about that little gift that you have? Have you wondered howcome there are some things that come absolutely naturally to you?
It may be sports or numbers of paints or love for animals or kids or pottery or poetry or just that SOMETHING that comes to you as easily as the first rays of sunshine in the morning. As natural as the urge to drink water. THAT is your gift. And I hope that you have kept that gift alive because it is way too easy to disown the value of something that comes naturally to us. At the age of 10, I had a full plot for a book that I wanted to write. The only thing that stopped me was someone who said that authors were always supposed to be old and experienced and needed a background in literature and there went the dream of that 10 year old. Who knows, maybe I could have been the youngest fiction author? Maybe you could have been the youngest pilot or the most expressive speaker the world has seen? Where's the limit? Who laid the rules here?
Coming back to writing, believe it or not, I was a rather tenacious one and the dream resurfaced again. It's almost like your gift will call to you even though you bury it or never think about it. Ever had that voice say that hey I think I wanna go join that tap dance class or hey I think I want to go attend that lecture on bodylanguage or hey I think its time I went for kite surfing and then you feel it. That indescribable feeling of deep elation. The elation of a child. That elation is your soul calling out to you and giving you a hi 5 for finally listening to it!
Here I am now, 29 years old and ready to start writing that book of mine. 'Coz if there is one thing that I have realised, it is this. It is that creativity is a lot easier than stopping yourself. Discipline is a lot easier than procrastination and self love is a hell lot better than self loathing. It's a lifelong learning but I am ready to embrace that gift that I was born with.
I just wanted to tell you at the end of this week that you are special and the gifts that you may have taken most for granted might just actually be your lifeline to the most soul fulfilling experiences in your life. Your gift is here and IN you as you breathe. There is no need to reach out or struggle. It's right here. You give it a moment or two and that voice will re emerge and tell you what your gifts have always been.
The best things are sometimes right under our nose.
